PERSONALIZED ("vanity") license plates are always "in"! Why? Many states encourage them because they bring in more tax revenue -- in addition to the required registration fee. Vehicle owners like them. They give private citizens some "control" of an official governmental procedure. They allow, within reason and taste, individuals to get across a message unique to their nature or wishes. Many people, of course, prefer to use some form of their names, their business name, or some other obvious and mundane personalization. This article, however, is mainly for those who want to be more "daring," imaginative, and original; it's for those who wish to mark their personal automobiles with a single expression which will extend something of their individuality not only to its bumpers but also to all points beyond as well.
It was found that generally one may use up to a six number-letter combination, plus one space for a space itself, hyphen or dash, period (as after an abbreviation or initial), or symbol such as a star, state logo, or map outline. (If you elect to use a symbol -- where available -- you will have no choice except whatever is used in your state.) In the following examples, either a space, period, or hyphen will be used. It is possible that the number of spaces may vary slightly in your state; note the personalized plates you see around from day to day or check with the vehicle registration (tax) department. Because the six letter-number combinations -- plus one space (or up to seven spaces altogether) -- is so commonplace, the suggestions given will not exceed this standard.
You may not have a personalized plate already issued in your state; obviously, duplications cannot be allowed. Hence, phonetic variations of the same word will be used here and there (below). You will not be issued a plate that violates your state's registration system, meaning you can't request a commercial or farm plate for your private car; neither can you get a tag which is objectionable, vulgar, or obscene -- and this can be tricky because what is not objectionable, vulgar, or obscene in one state or to one official may be regarded as being so in another state or to another official. No doubt, if you went to court, claiming denial of First Amendment rights (freedom of speech), you could overturn denial of a plate not patently gross or defamatory -- if you wanted to go to the bother and expense. (Consult an attorney.)
For those who own a personalized plate, most states do issue a fresh set of replacements annually. It is easier to remember your plate if you choose a customized one. However, before you get one, you must realize there are some possible disadvantages as well. Know that almost anywhere you drive or park your car, somebody you know may recognize your plate and later ask what you were doing there. If you're a reckless driver or violate the law, you're probably more likely to be noticed and found. Be careful what you put on your plate because you will be stuck with it for a year; make sure you pick something you can live with. Also know that citizen complaints about any too-far-out plate can cause it to be denied renewal (or perhaps rescinded) even if you were able to get by the official who might have been "asleep at the switch" at the time your request was approved.
Don't limit reading and consideration (below) solely to your Sun-Sign. Read them all; you may wish to express your Moon-Sign, ascendant, or some other horoscope-related "feeling." Even if you're not considering a personalized license plate, you may learn something more ("keywords") about yourself and others -- and often be amused in the process. If you don't find just what you're looking for in the Sun-Sign sections, be sure to check out the after-Pisces information for further possibilities using Roman numerals.

Did you spot the one example used in the Cancer section? It was LXIX (69)--Cancer's symbol turned on its side. The Roman key numbers are I (1), V (5), X (10), L (50), C (100), D (500) M (1,000). The basic principle is that higher (larger) numbers are created by adding another unit to the right of the number below it -- VI (6), XI (11), LI (51) -- or by subtracting a unit to the left of the number above it -- IV (4), IX (9), XC (90). If you can limit the number of letters (spaces) to seven (or whatever your state allows), you might consider your birth year for a personalized plate; for exampie: MCMXXX (1930), MCML (1950), MCMLV (1955), MCMLXIX (1969). Or you can use your month, date, and year of birth in one of two ways: I (January), XX (20), LIX (59)=IXXLIX, or XX (20), I (January), LIX (59)= XXILIX. ROMAN NUMERICAL CONVERTER below. (You can also convert your street number (if not over 3999), phone number (in parts -- i.e. xxx, then xxxx -- if not greater than 3999), or just about anything else to Roman numerals. Could be fun!)
M = 1000 D = 500 C = 100 L = 50 X = 10 V = 5 I = 1
